Permanent Sterilization – Essure

Surgical Procedures

At Women’s Clinic we offer a wide range of contraceptive services. While we have expertise in reversible contraception options such as oral contraceptive pills and Mirena IUD, we also provide permanent contraceptive options. For those interested in permanent sterilization (often referred to as “getting your tubes tied’) we offer two options:

1) Traditional laparoscopy involves placing a camera into the abdomen to visualize the fallopian tubes. The fallopian tubes are then occluded (blocked) using either cauterization or clips. This requires being put under anesthesia and typically involves two small incisions on the abdomen.

2) Hysteroscopic transcervical sterilization can be done with no incisions. Women’s Clinic physicians offer the Essure procedure. This procedure is performed by placing a camera through the cervix and into the uterus. The fallopian tubes are then occluded (blocked) according to the procedure you choose. As an added bonus these procedures can both be performed in the office without general anesthesia!
